Hello Everyone,

Traffic and drug enforcement continue to be top priorities for the Langley RCMP.

Our Traffic Section engaged in numerous road check operations in this past week. In 7 days, we arrested 10 individuals for impaired driving. This past weekend (June 21st) also marked the Langley RCMP's first issuance of a violation ticket for "Smoking with a Child in the Vehicle". The driver receiving the $109 ticket had pulled up to the police road check with a cigarette in his mouth and a young child in the vehicle. The driver also received a 24-hour driving suspension as he displayed signs of alcohol impairment. Drivers and passengers alike are reminded that it is illegal to smoke with children in a vehicle. The RCMP will be watching for this violation.

Our Drug Section has been busy working a number of Dial-a-Dope operations (situation where you can call a known drug phone number and have drugs delivered to you). This past week, they arrested a man in Walnut Grove for trafficking in marihuana. Our Drug members are also working with Proceeds of Crime legislation to restrain a property in Aldergrove. The property was subject to a recent Langley RCMP search warrant for a marihuana grow operation. Marihuana grow operations are very lucrative for criminals and we are utilizing a number of strategies to take back property that has been obtained as a result of criminal activity. In addition utilizing the Proceeds of Crime legislation to restrain and eventually seize property from criminals, the Langley RCMP also works closely with the Province's Civil Forfeiture team and the Canadian Revenue Agency.

Other highlights and trends:

-On June 16th at about 11:10 AM, we responded to the 2600 block of 248th Street for a report of a Break and Enter in Progress. Two males were seen fleeing from a home after a security alarm was triggered. Police quickly responded and arrested a 43-year-old man from Hope nearby. Members set up a perimeter and called upon the assistance of the Integrated Police Dog Services (PDS). PDS tracked for a considerable distance through bushes and swamp-land prior to nabbing the second suspect, a 39-year-old man from Abbotsford. The suspects were brothers, both of whom face charges for the break and enter.

-We have experienced a series of Cat Burglaries (break-ins to residences while people are home) in the past two months. A number of these crimes involved the suspect (s) breaking in through unlocked garages, stealing power washers and tools. In other cases, access to the residence was achieved through unlocked doors and windows. Cash from purses, video games, CD's, DVD's, computers and credit cards were taken. In the remaining cases, the suspect (s) forced open doors and windows. While these crimes have been occurring all over the Township and City, the last three happened north of the freeway in the area of 93rd Avenue and 208th Street and 94th Avenue and Glover Road. Cat burglaries have been occurring in other jurisdictions such as Abbotsford and North Vancouver. Despite the recent hot weather, it is recommended that home owners lock doors and windows and use extra precautions where possible (dowels in windows, extra locks, alarms, etc).

That's it for now.

Be safe out there.

Janice Armstrong, Supt.
Officer in Charge
Langley Detachment
